The Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute is a service-learning program designed to teach youth the importance of community volunteerism and civic engagement. It is a week long program that runs during the summer. Youth will be engaged in both classroom style and experiential learning through the various units in the training. As a part of the training youth will also design and implement a service project in the Battle Creek community. In 2010, the Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute (PYLI) will take place during the week of July 19th through the 23rd. The service project, planned and implemented by the participants, will take place on the final day (the 23rd of July) with a special celebration to honor the partipant's achievements on the following Monday.
